1 out of 5 stars This game is quite simply broken   July 17, 2010
Tom
When I first bought this, four years ago, my laptop could only run it on jerky, low-res settings. No problem, I thought, I'll wait a couple of years as I'll be making my own PC soon and try it then.

Now I've built a top-notch PC that runs Mass Effect 2 on its highest settings. But can it play BS4? Pfft.
It *can* but the characters just become black shadows. This is because I have a multi-core PC and anything more than one core in your box makes the textures go bye-bye.

Not to worry, I say, you can use Imagecfg to assign a core affinity to the .exe file so it will always run on just one core. Now, for no apparent reason, it won't start and returning the settings back to all four cores doesn't change that.
One reinstall later and the next option is to set the affinity to one core by using Task Manager while the program is running the main menu for the game, then load up a game.
Nope, doesn't make any difference.

The final option (which DOES work - to a degree) is to effectively cripple my PC by telling it to reboot using just one core. This means I won't be able to do anything that puts a strain on the processor while in this mode.
Result? I intend to rush through it using strategy guides in the space of a week so I at least can experience the story, then wake up the other three cores and never touch it again.

Except even that isn't easy, because now the change in core settings for SOME reason (God only knows what) means it crashes if I run it on anything other than the lowest resolution.

Up yours THQ, up yours.

I'm sure there's *some* PC out there it works okay on - it's the one the devs were using. If they could just put those specs on the internet, I'll ebay this to anyone with those specifications. To anyone else, it's not worth the hassle - just look on YouTube for the cutscenes.

4 out of 5 stars excellent game   September 30, 2009

Great game but takes a while to get into it. Well worth the effort though

5 out of 5 stars Great Game   May 30, 2009
Mr. Conrad Steven Malpas (South Wales)
This game is a culmination of great research and great ideas.

I have been a fan of the Broken Sword series of games since they started and they are still entertaining me to this day of part 4 reinvigorates the player to revisit the old adventures and play through them again.

Part 4 is a massively entertaining and challenging game with some interesting and inventive puzzles but to the experienced gamer who have followed the series they should not stump you long.

Buy this adventure you won't be disappointed

3 out of 5 stars A royal pain in the bum but ok   April 9, 2009
Mr. N. Wildman (Beds, UK)
I was a big fan of the first two Broken Sword games having been a huge fan of the Monkey Island games and all point and click comedy puzzle types.
Now, it may just be me but this game really really annoyed me. The reason for this was some of the puzzles were just completely unsolvable if you didn't know what to do. I have no problem with difficult puzzles, if they are too easy it's just no fun but there should at least be some sort of logic to figuring them out! If like me, you have quite a logical brain, this will drive you crazy. When I finally discovered how to solve some of the puzzles in this I was genuinely angry with the makers as I would never have figured out how to do it without the aid of a walkthrough!
Right, that's the main gripe over. There are some good moments in this game and the story line as always with Broken Sword games is intruiging.
If you are a fan of the previous games, it is worth getting but beware of the stupid new control system and be prepared to be VERY frustrated at certain points in the game.

Having just completed the game I am left feeling the whole thing was one big practical joke and I wish I could get those hours of my life back.
I loved the first two in the series but this failed on every aspect.
The graphics were bad but the animations were awful.
The puzzles were mostly very linear and boring.
The story was pretty disjointed and never actually went anywhere.
The characters were all extremely dull other than being so annoying you wanted to bash them all to death with that rather handy golf club you solve every second puzzle with.
