5 out of 5 stars Great Value for Money   July 14, 2010
Stoater
Watch is really eaasy to use. Can automatically work out heart rate limits depending the Weight, Height, Age info you input. You can also manually set these limits. Has a useful review function at the end of a training session.

Display is clear and has a good backlight.

Really good product. Would recommend it for someone wanting to get more precise info for the running training.

2 out of 5 stars Poor build quality and aftersales   July 8, 2010
Mr. John de Sousa
I received my RS100 about 7 months ago, after 4 months the lower right hand button fell out and I had to send the unit for repair (postage costs at my expense). After a week or two the unit was returned with the button repaired but about a month later the button fell out again. I contacted Polar and they have asked me to send the unit back to them for a second repair. I don't think that this is acceptable as I will have incurred two lots of postage costs and will have a sub-standard unit. I would have expected to have the unit swapped out when it first became faulty as it was well within it's warranty period. Not sure if I'll buy a Polar product in the future.

Update:

Instead of returning my unit Polar sent me a packet full of replacement buttons. I replaced the missing button in about two seconds flat - quite why had me return the item for them to do this and then ask again for me to return the item is beyond me.....

5 out of 5 stars Good Quality & Value Heart Monitor   June 25, 2010
Mr. A. Phipps (Hampshire, England)
This is by far the most comfortable chest monitor/watch combination of the several that I have owned. The washable strap is very comfortable and evenly pressured even when tight enough to prevent all slippage. The watch unit display is clear with excellent and easily controlled lap and stopwatch facilities. The display can be customised in use as it effectively uses 3 separate display areas. I found setting it up very straightforward and (unlike some other reviewers) had no problem in manually adjusting the automatically-generated recommended training heartrate band limits and even turning off the beep as necessary, just by following the directions in the clear operating manual supplied.

The added feature of a post-exercise summary and archive displaying time in the training band and percentage of fat-burning exercise is very useful for those wanting to optimise and review their training.

If I had to make a criticism it is that the strap of the watch unit is integral to the watch casing. While this avoids any breaking watchstrap pins etc, if you are unlucky enough to catch and tear the strap while say running in woods, then you will need to replace the whole watch casing.

All in all, A very good product for the price and I strongly recocommend it to joggers, those exercising to lose weight and for sports competitors in training

3 out of 5 stars Polar RS100 Running Computer   May 27, 2010
Ian Mac (Yorkshire)

The product does what it says. However there are some aspects of its design that I am not too keen on.
1. The numerals for the date are very small and unnecessarily so since there is space for them to be at least 25% bigger - the capital letters are. This would help with displaying the figures '3','4','5','6','8','9' and '0' which are difficult to distinguish.
2. Whereas the middle lines of figures are more than adequate in height, the top and bottom rows are so small as to be only readable when sitting down with a magnifying glass.
3. A previous reviewer has referred to the use of the buttons. I have been using the device for 28 days now and today I still made a mistake by pressing the wrong button and loosing lap data as a result. The buttons need to be more intuitive. Perhaps another large button on the opposite side of the 'dial' to the large red button at the bottom, would help. I found that selecting the sound to be 'on' was helpful, since sometimes I thought that I had applied enough pressure on the button to activate the function, but it had not worked (for example finishing the 'paused' state).
4. To prevent loss of data (see 3 above) it would be useful to have not just one file but three files of the last three occasions that recording took place. The 'Totals' data will not help to recreate lost data if the wrong buttons have been pressed inadvertently and the next recording has been started.
5. On one occasion I found that my maximum heart rate had been recorded at 169, whereas every other occasion it was between 139-143 (24 recordings). I had not exerted myself unusually on that occasion, so the device is not infallible.

The RS100 running computer is an impressive device and has got a lot going for it, but I believe it can be improved. The reviewer is aged 64, weighs 93 kilos, and has less than perfect eyesight!

5 out of 5 stars completely revitalised and improved my workouts   May 17, 2010

I did not think that such a small think would have such a big impact on my workouts, but the change has been phenominal. I suffer from "over thinking" often when I am running my brain kicks in and whines about how I am tired should stop, you can't go on etc, with the HRM i can visually see just how hard I'm working if I need to increase or decrease the intensity, basically the little voice has been silenced and I now get on with good quality workouts.
The chest belt is comfortable, I don't even notice it but as a girl it does tend to just sit under my bra so I don't realise its there.
The watch is not unpleasent I even wear it by itself as a watch when I am going out, the strap is sturdy the band is comfortable and its small enough to be quite normal even on a lady.
Over all I think a HRM is probably one of the best exersize tools somebody could purchase, I didn't want something that required a degree in rocket science and I didnt want something that was so simple it broke straight off. This watch comes comfortably in the middle, clear detailed useful information you need at that moment, I strongly recomend this product.
